Patience – The Five-Minute Test
"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient,
bearing with one another in love." — Ephesians 4:2 (NIV)
When I hear the word patience, my mind immediately thinks about the big things in life—waiting for an answered prayer, waiting for healing, waiting for a new opportunity, or waiting for God to open the next door.
But recently, God has been teaching me that patience isn't
only revealed in life's long waiting seasons.
It's revealed in the five-minute moments.
The traffic light that refuses to turn green.
The colleague who asks the same question again.
The driver who cuts into your lane.
The project that doesn't get recognized.
The child who interrupts your work.
The spouse who forgets something you already reminded them
about.
Five minutes.
That's often all it takes for impatience to reveal what's
really happening inside our hearts.
I've come to realize something:
Pressure doesn't create impatience. It reveals it.
When life presses us, whatever is inside naturally comes out.
If frustration, anger, or harsh words become our first response, perhaps the
Holy Spirit isn't simply asking us to "try harder." Perhaps He is
inviting us to let Him transform something deeper within us.
Paul reminds us to "be patient, bearing with one
another in love." Patience isn't merely about tolerating people until they
change. It's choosing to love even when they don't.
Maybe patience looks like resisting the urge to honk in
traffic because everyone else wants to reach home too.
Maybe it looks like staying in your lane instead of rushing
to overtake.
Maybe it's responding gently when you're overlooked at work,
trusting that God sees what others don't.
Maybe it's taking a deep breath before speaking to your
children or your spouse after a long and exhausting day.
These moments may seem small, but they are often where the
Holy Spirit quietly shapes us to become more like Christ.
The beautiful thing about patience is that it can be practised in ordinary places. Not just in church on Sunday, but on busy roads, in
office meetings, around the dinner table, and in the countless interruptions
that fill our days.
Every interruption becomes an invitation.
Every delay becomes an opportunity.
Every inconvenience becomes a chance to choose the Spirit
over the flesh.
Think back over your day.
Where did impatience show up?
Was it at home?
At work?
On the road?
What if those very moments are where God is lovingly growing
the fruit of patience in you?
Which "five-minute
moment" challenges your patience the most?
Father, thank You for caring not only about the big moments
of my life but also about the ordinary moments that shape my heart. Forgive me
for the times I allow frustration and irritation to become my first response.
Fill me with Your Spirit so that when life presses me, love, gentleness, and
patience flow out instead. Help me to see every delay, interruption, and
inconvenience as an opportunity to become more like Jesus. May my responses
reflect Your heart in every interaction today. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Yes Lord you want us to exercise the fruits of the spirit … to run with patience especially in the small moments 🙏
